The bass frequencies come off the back of the Lowther driver, and the midrange and highs both come coherently from the front of the driver. It kind of looks odd, that "little" driver staring at you from that big box. WebLowther drivers are high pressure low excursion device, hence they are not suited for typical bass reflex boxes. In order to produce the lowest frequencies, they need to be attached to a horn. They are much like a compression driver in this respect.

I found them at a garage sale for $100.00, believe it or not ! The surrounds were rotted out and the cabs had been spray bombed flat black :tears: I worked on these speakers for a long, long time.. stripped them down and refinished them and even sent the drivers back to Lowther for new surrounds.

I have a particular dislike of sibilants, which causes me to dislike many conventional speakers as well, and the Lowthers I heard sounded like a laser beam of sibilant frequencies beaming at my ears.
