Soil structure in geotechnical engineering
WebGeotechnical engineering is present in every construction project in some capacity. It involves the subsurface explorations, soil and bedrock testing, design of foundations and other underground structures, and construction monitoring which occur from the start of the project in schematic design, right through project completion. Webthe structure may be defined as “static soil-structure interaction”. It is common practice to omit the word “static”, hence the term “soil-structure interaction” or SSI may be used. The primary difficulty in soil-structure interaction problem lies in the determination of the contact pressure between the foundation and the soil.
